Located in Southwark, Borough Market is London’s oldest fresh food market. The full market operates every Wednesday to Saturday, offering fine British and international fresh meat and seafood, a vast array of cheeses, bakery items, fruits and vegetables, and so much more. It’s literally a foodie’s dream.
A Photo Guide to Borough Market in London
For over 1,000 years, the market has been the centre of London’s food trade, located near the London Bridge and the South Bank, you can easily lose a few hours wandering around this top gourmet market.
Borough Market is a busy place, especially on Saturdays, but don’t be put off by the hustle and bustle. Shoppers mill about, filling baskets with bright, colourful produce. Traders are happy to answer your questions while preparing food right in front of your eyes.
The best times to visit the market is early on Saturdays or weekdays afternoons, with less people you can take your time wandering around, admiring the items on offer and chatting with vendors.
Part of the fun is wandering around, looking and even tasting the fresh and strange ingredients, so take your time before buying.
Borough Market is free to enter, but it’s a challenge to visit without spending any money, especially when there are all those free samples on offer. Make sure you explore the whole market before you start buying anything.
Make sure you bring a bag with you, a good tote will help you get your haul home.

Love Borough Market and love your pictures! I used to work around the corner from here so it was a good bit of nostalgia for me 😆
Thank you so much! Its a great area, I’ve been there many times before but can’t believe it’s taken me so long to visit the market. I’ll definitely be heading there again, even if it’s just for delicious coffee.
Beautiful photographs. I love Borough market, but to be honest, I haven’t been for ages (since I moved out of London, it is just a little too far for a ‘quick’ visit and doesn’t happen to be on my usual commute). But I think I really need to make the effort and head back soon.
I hadn’t heard of Borough Market before. I’ll be in London for a short time this summer so I’ll have to check it out!
London has some brilliant markets, I’m hoping to visit more of them over the course of the year.
We used to walk along the river to Borough Market all the time. I really miss this food-filled area of London! I am dreaming of the cheese there! 😉
I’m not a huge cheese lover but was given some incredible samples. I’m still thinking about the incredible mussels.
