This post was written in collaboration with the MyPostcard app. The postcard was created by me, and the opinions expressed in this post are all my own.
Something you may not know about me is that as a child I collected postcards. Not just those I received from family and friends who were enjoying wonderful holidays, but also old ones that I would buy from a small, local second hand bookshop. I would sit and think, not only about the places that these postcards had travelled from, but also about the people and the story behind them. Then I would take these cards and carefully insert them into an album, preserved in time.
Despite this, I was never one for sending postcards myself, and as everyone has a smartphone to hand and social media becomes more and more prevalent the likelihood of receiving one has diminished significantly over the years. So when the team behind the MyPostcard app contacted me to write a review of the service and products they offer I was excited about the prospect of reigniting an interest I’d had almost twenty years ago.
Over the years the number of postcards I received and purchased dwindled and the album collected more dust than travel memories, but even now I can remember the curiosity that was sparked by these simple messages and the images that had been chosen.
Creating Personalised Postcards With the MyPostcard App
I can understand why sending postcards may have fallen out of popularity – they all tend to look the same, then after writing out your message you need to search for somewhere that sells stamps, post it and hope it reaches its destination before you return home, so it seems wonderful that a form of communication that could so easily be forgotten could be bought back to life.
As I was heading to London for a weekend, I decided this was the perfect opportunity to take some photos and try out the MyPostcard app.
Introducing the MyPostcard App
The first step is to download the app, sign up and use the code GEMMABF9P to claim £3.00 free credit.

To begin, choose the style. There is a variety of “styles” to choose from, and themes so you can choose from a simple classic design, to one that is modern and quirky, there are so many options to choose from but this all comes down to personal preference.
Now you can get creative. The next step in the process is to select an image from your album to create the postcard. You can even take a brand new photo using the app and then edit and crop the image until it’s exactly how you want it.
After this, you can add a personalized message, choosing text so that it even looks as though it’s been handwritten, (allowing up to 450 characters) you then need to add the address of the recipient. The app even allows you to create a list of contacts so you can quickly and easily pick and choose who to send your postcards to.
Now that you’ve selected a layout, you’ve added the photos and you’ve written the message, you can preview the final design. If you’re not quite ready to send it you also have the option to save the postcard as a draft – this is particularly useful if you’re in an area with poor connection and you need to wait until you can find Wi-Fi.
Finally, click Send.
Then let MyPostcard do the rest
Within moments you’ll receive confirmation that your order is being processed. Then your personalized postcard will be in the post within 24 hours.

How Much is MyPostcard?
The app itself is completely free to download. You only have to pay for the postcards you send. However, the cost is surprisingly good value for money. A basic postcard costs as little as £1.99 each – that’s designing and sending the postcard, a premium postcard costs just £2.49. While the greeting cards are a little more expensive at £2.99 each.
There’s even the option to create framed images, and produce cards in bulk – perfect if you’ve got a wonderful wintery image for sending beautiful Christmas cards.
Receiving the postcard I created through the post was a special moment, it reignited a level of excitement that I haven’t felt for years, even though I knew what the image was and the message that had been written, picking up that card that had been sent specifically from a destination for a purpose was a lovely way to start a weekend morning.
To sit and hold a physical card, read a printed message and appreciate the personalised aspect of a postcard creates an almost nostalgic reminder of how we used to share our travel stories, compared to nowadays and how we just post our photos to social media, send a quick email, or update our Facebook statuses. However, to really take the time to choose and image, write a message, to personalise a postcard is a beautiful way to communicate and show that even when you are in a different country you are still thinking of your loved ones.
As I said earlier, I haven’t sent any postcards from my previous trips, and I hardly ever remember to print out photographs afterwards either, but I really enjoyed using the MyPostcard app and will definitely be using it again in the future, even if I don’t send many postcards out to friends and family I love the idea of using these postcards and photo prints as little mementos of my own future trips.

Ok this is cool. As someone who has bags of postcards stashed away in my house I can appreciate this. I love postcards and still send them to people now. Occasionally my friends and family are like “uh…thanks?!” When what they’re really thinking is who still sends postcards! I do though. Great idea!
I know what you mean. I’m sure some people would wonder why I was sending postcards, but I’m also sure that some people would really appreciate the thought. Even if I send them to myself and pin them to my wall occasionally, I think it’s a lovely idea.
Omg I didn’t even know this was a thing ! I want to download this! It’s so cute!
Do it! They’re great. Don’t forget to use the code. You essentially get the first one free with the £3.00 credit.
I love this – such a cute idea! I JUST sent some postcards for the first time ever on a trip (one of those things I always meant to do, but never actually did) and I really enjoyed it! I love that this app lets you personalize them – so cute!
Amazing! I always say I will but then never do. This app is so easy to use that I’m pretty sure I’ll use it a lot for future trips.
Love this idea. I’ve been thinking of starting to send postcards to my niece and nephew when I’m on my travels. This would be perfect!
Thank you for your comment. That’s lovely. I’m sure they would appreciate it as well.
This is such a neat idea! I didn’t know this existed, but I’m downloading it now!
