Stepping through the door to the riad you’d be forgiven for thinking you were buried deep in the heart of a medina in the centre of a Moroccan town, but this isn’t Morocco – this is Hotel Ziggurat in St. Peter Port on the island of Guernsey.
Checking In to Hotel Ziggurat, Guernsey
Hotel Ziggurat is a beautifully designed and thoughtfully decorated hotel in the heart of the St. Peter Port district of Guernsey. The details make all the difference – grey walls with lovely wall-hangings, ceramic accents and themed photographs. every little detail has been carefully and meticulously planned and placed.
Like a medina, Hotel Ziggurat is a rabbit warren of corridors, steps and alcoves. Strategically placed mirrors help make all of the little areas appear much larger – reflecting the beautiful views over St. Peter Port and the harbour.
Despite having booked a single room it was surprisingly spacious. There was plenty of storage, the usual tea and coffee making facilities, a sink with an en-suite toilet and shower. The highlight however, was the terrace and stunning views over the town.
The rooms 1-7 share a terrace but it then winds its way around the building and up a narrow set of steps and up into the sprawling and levelled gardens. A plethora of seating and lounging areas invite you to relax and admire your surroundings.Â
The beach huts are a delightful addition and make an ideal spot for relaxing and enjoying the views of St. Peter Port – grab a drink and a book, settle onto the comfy seating, enjoy the relaxing music and while away an hour or two.
Breakfast is included in your room rate and an excellent way to start the day before you head out to explore the island, with cereals, toast, hot and cold drink and three cooked options available, everyone is catered for.
If you want to settle in on your first night and avoid the hassle of finding a meal you can book a table within the hotel and be served a delicious three course meal.
If you like to stay in a chain hotel, with a branded style, impersonal atmosphere and pristine staff then this may not be the place for you. Hotel Ziggurat offers something a little different, with a more warm, friendly welcome, and a setting full of personality and style.
