The world is currently experiencing a moment in history that I don’t think any of us will ever forget. As the Coronavirus spreads across the world we should all be taking this time to revaluate our lives, the way we interact with people and how we look after ourselves. For many of us who value travel it is now a time where we are having to focus our interests and creativity in different ways, but there are actually ways you can still enjoy the subject of travel without leaving your home.

I am only on day three of “working from home” – for me this constitutes checking my email intermittently and then looking for snacks. It has however made me think about the potential travel plans I had for this year and consider what the rest of the year may look like depending on how long it takes for the world to recover from this pandemic.

My last trip was to Disneyland Paris back in November, which seems like a lifetime ago. I’m definitely getting a mild feeling of itchy feet and so I wanted to spend some time thinking about how to scratch that itch and get my travel fix without actually going anywhere.

How to Travel Without Leaving Your Home

Cook Something Different

Almost everyone has a recipe book in their home. Have a flick through and try cooking something new. Obviously, if you can do this without having to head to the supermarket then even better. Focus on dishes that you could portion out and freeze so that they last longer as this will automatically reduce the amount of time you have to spend in these shops and should also help save a little money.

Bacon, Egg and Prawn Fried Rice

Start Planning Your Next Trip

I am in no way suggesting that you should be trying to travel now. However, we will get through this difficult time and every country in the world will be trying to rebuild their local communities and economies so will require visitors to start returning eventually.

Instead of completely deleting the idea of travel from your mind, take this time to focus on where you want to visit, how you want to get there, and the best way you could support small and local businesses who will be eternally grateful for your assistance.

Read Travel Books

The thing I love about reading is that you can feel as though you have been transported to any location and be inspired. There are so many fantastic books available to easy that overwhelming sense of wanderlust for you to choose from.

These are just some of the ones I have in my tbr pile at the moment:

Watch Some Films

Grab some snacks, pour yourself a drink and settle down for a movie night.

Catch up With a TV Series

Pick an afternoon and chill out in front of your TV and catch up with some brilliant TV series that have been made recently.

Race Across the World

The Americas With Simon Reeve

Griff’s Great Australian Adventure

Sort Your Photos

Not everyone sorts their photographs after each of their trips, so now is the perfect time. Go through each of your memory cards and sort everything into folders.

Don’t forget to back everything up.

Learn a Language

If you’ve always wanted to learn a new language then today could be the perfect time to start. With 36 different languages to choose from Language Drops could be the perfect choice.

Enjoy Your Garden

The weather has been lovely for the past few days, so if you look out of the window and the sun is shining, take advantage. Throw down a towel, grab a book, make yourself a cocktail and enjoy some much-needed fresh air.
