Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam is a city like no other and one well worth visiting. In this post I’ll give you the tiniest glimpse into the reasons why Vietnam should be on your travel wish list and why I’m asking myself the question: is Hanoi my new favourite city?
Is Hanoi My New Favourite City?
Hanoi is a city that has something for everyone, whether you love museums and learning about the history of a place, a crazy number of food vendors for those who love discovering new flavours, parks and gardens for anyone who goes in search of quiet spaces and for those who love to live a little more on the edge there’s the opportunity to hop on a scooter and head straight into the slightly terrifying traffic on roads that can only be described as intimidating.
Is Hanoi My New Favourite City?
From the moment I stepped out of the taxi outside the hotel I was staying in I knew there was something different about Hanoi. It was around 9pm and the street was still jam-packed with people sitting outside enjoying late night food and drinks, and chatting in their own little groups. There was an immediate sense that this was a city that didn’t rest even in the latest hours.
Hanoi may be a hugely busy and bustling city but it is also incredibly easy to navigate (with the help of maps and local guides) and with so much to see and do you probably wouldn’t regret getting a little lost anyway.
Things to do in Hanoi
Explore the Old Quarter
Visit St Joseph’s Cathedral
Walk around Hoà n Kiếm Lake
Take a Food Tour
It’s difficult to put into words just why Hanoi felt so special, is it because of the delicious food? is it because of the friendly and efficient people? is it because of the beautiful architecture and unique history? Or maybe it’s a combination of all those things plus a few extra treats that you’ll just have to discover for yourself.
Is Hanoi my new favourite city? Very possibly.
Have you visited Vietnam? What was your favourite city?
