I’ve never been one for going back and reviewing the month as the year passes, but I’ve decided to attempt it for 2020, to look back at the positive and negative aspects and take stock.

January: Reviewing the Month

With regards to reviewing the month it hasn’t been the greatest start. January started well enough, I’d decided that I was going to publish a blog post every day and my motivation and productivity was at an all time high, in fact I had twelve posts written before Christmas, then another three between Christmas and New Year. I wasn’t a complete machine though and gave myself some time off as I was returning to work on the 6th – another two blog posts were written in the first week.

By the second week of January I had a stinking cold, the sort that keeps you off work, sucks every ounce of energy and means you do nothing but sleep, cough, sleep, slurp soup, sleep, cough and dose yourself up on copious amounts of cough medicine and honey and lemon.

Another week passed and as I returned to work I realised that I was falling behind with the writing of blog posts, that the ugly feeling of failing was creeping up on me and January was slowly disappearing.

Just as I thought my creativity was returning the cold that had been looming like a shadow returned and turned onto a chest infection.

I really wanted to complete the challenge of publishing a blog post every day throughout January and I’m glad I achieved it. However, I’m disappointed that something as simple as having a cold set me back so much. If I had stayed on track all of the posts would have been written by the end of last week, as it is this post was only finished an hour before it was scheduled to be uploaded.

The only good thing about being off sick when you have a full time job is that it means I didn’t spend any money for a week.

The lack of energy and generally crappy feeling means that I also haven’t been tempted to plan or book any trips, so it’s given me time to think about the blog, the content that I want to produce over the next few weeks, and to consider some of the things I want to do over the next few months.

What was January like for you?

Let me know in the comments.
