For some people, packing for a weekend trip can be their idea of a nightmare. For me it’s never really an issue as I tend to wear the same sort of thing every day: jeans, blouses, cardigans and trainers. I am one of those people who is nearly always cold but doesn’t fair very well in the heat.
Here are some of my quick and easy tips for packing for a weekend trip.
Packing for a Weekend Trip
1. Always check the weather forecast:
Of course if you’re travelling within the UK there is a distinct possibility that you could see all forms of weather in just one day. Packing for the Summer will always be easier than the Winter. If you are expecting bad weather during your weekend trip there are a couple of ways to make your packing much simpler:
Pack thermals; you can easily wear layers which will save you having to take multiple jumpers, and you can always wear leggings under your jeans.Â
Wear a thin waterproof jacket; it will take less space than a think Winter coat and will be easier to wear layers underneath.Â
Don’t forget the essentials like hat, scarf and gloves.
2. Deciding on shoes is probably the most difficult part of packing for a weekend trip:
It is obviously dependent on what your plans are; hiking, extreme sports, sightseeing, shopping, food tours. I personally never pack more than one pair but there are three options of footwear when travelling:Â
Waterproof Shoes: Great for hiking or if you know that the weather will be bad.
Trainers: Ideal for sightseeing, city tours or general wandering
Ankle Boots: Also great for general walking but also perfect if you have plans for a fancy meal somewhere.
3. Another aspect that I think people always over pack when planning their weekend trips are toiletries:
There are some super easy tips for packing a small and simple toiletry bag.
Mini toiletries: If you ever stay in hotels take the mini toiletries with you, store them and keep them for your weekend breaks. Keep the empties and decant product as an when you need it.
Don’t throw the bottles away; not only are they unlikely to be recyclable but you can refill them next time
Combination products: Look for the sort of product that can be used as shampoo, shower gel and shaving gel.
Folding products: There are plenty of foldable toothbrushes, combs, brushes and mini razors on the market.
Makeup: Do you really need a face full of makeup every day? I rarely pack more than a mascara and lip gloss.
Toiletry Bag: Find a small bag. The larger the bag the more tempted you’ll be to fill it.
4. Choose your luggage wisely:
Like with your toiletry bag, if you take a large suitcase you’ll be tempted to fill it with multiple outfits for each day. This will simply result in you wondering why you had packed so much when you unpack it at the end of your trip.
