Whether you’re visiting Birmingham for a day, a weekend or even a bit longer you’re going to need to eat, so finding somewhere with a lovely and friendly atmosphere and a great menu is going to be necessary. There are many options of places to eat in Birmingham but I’ve put together a small selection of my favourites from where I’ve eaten over the years.

The Oyster Club

Definitely not the most affordable place to visit, but if it’s a special occasion or you just really want to treat yourself then this is the place to go, with a relaxed and casual approach to dining this is probably the best seafood on offer in the city.

Location: 42 Tmeple Street, B2 5DP

Recommend: Roasted Cod Fillet

 

 

Purecraft Bar and Kitchen

Socialising with a beer and tasty food is the obvious theme when stepping through the door. An impressive selection of both meat and non-meat dishes as well as an extensive range of beer from both Purity Brewing Company as well as specialist brewers from around the world.

Recommend: Fried Chicken Burger

 

 

The Karczma

The Karczma is a traditional restaurant, bar and grill, with a menu designed to reflect homely and hearty Polish food, prepared using only the very best quality ingredients to create truly authentic dishes.

Location: Polish Millennium House, Bordesley Street, B5 5PH

Recommend: Beef Stew

 

 

Tattu

Tattu brand originally set out to “bring something unique and exciting to the UK culinary scene”, with seasonal menus created by talented chefs using premium ingredients sourced from selected suppliers, producing colourful dim sum, delicious small plates and modern main courses.

Recommend: Duck Egg and Chinese Sausage Fried Rice

 

 

Gas Street Social

Whether you’re meeting friends for their popular bottomless brunch, enjoying a meal in the evening or treating yourself to a tasty cocktail, Gas Street Social should definitely be on your list of places to visit.

Location: 166-168 Wharfside Street, B1 1RL

Recommend: Fish and Chips

 

 

Devon House

Devon House Restaurant & Bar serves a wide range of traditional Jamaican dishes marinated and cooked with natural seasonings and herbs with home made sauces whilst accompanying the most authentic Caribbean food in Birmingham.

Recommend: Sweet and Sour King Prawns

 

 

The Rose Villa Tavern

Located just a short walk from the city centre, the Rose Villa Tavern is a must visit location. An old Victorian pub with a great interior including a snug with a modern vibe.

Location: 172 Warstone Lane, B18 6JW

Recommend: Beer Battered Cod and Chips

 

 

Bodega Bar & Cantina

A South American inspired cantina and cocktail bar providing fresh, homemade food and a vast and creative selection of cocktails.

Recommend: Mexican Cola Wings

 

 

Purnell’s Bistro

Described by its owner as ‘rustic home cooking with an eclectic twist’ Purnell’s Bistro is a beautiful restaurant and cocktail bar in the city centre with a menu loosely inspired by rustic British fare. Traditional ingredients and dishes are offered in attractive ways alongside others from further afield.

Recommend: Poached Fillet of Cod

 

 

Gusto

Gusto restaurants specialise in classic and contemporary Italian dishes featuring a range of pasta, pizza and seafood. They also offer an extensive cocktail menu. With an beautiful private dining room, an elegant bar and outdoor terrace Gusto is the perfect location for a unique dining experience.

Recommend: Truffled Mushroom Spaghetti

 

 

The Lost and Found

This Grade II listed building and its whimsical interior is stunning. Whether you’re heading for brunch, treating yourself to an evening feast or simply exploring the concoctions created at the bar, a visit to Lost and Found will undoubtedly be memorable.

Recommend: Glazed Duck Breast

 

 

Noel’s

Noel’s is a modern restaurant and bar boasting high-end creative cuisine using fresh ingredients inspired by the Mediterranean and an inspired cocktail menu.

Recommend: Pan-Fried Fillet of Salmon

 

 

Siamais

This waterfront location is the perfect setting for this expert team of mixologists and chefs to provide a magical dining and drinking experience that will make you want to return again and again.
