Little Venice is a beautiful area of London with delightful canals and waterways. Located in the area where the Grand Union and Regent’s canals connect. An oasis of peace and tranquillity, this picturesque neighbourhood provides quirky waterside cafes, charming restaurants and cosy pubs, and with so much to explore it’s the perfect location for a relaxing weekend.
A Weekend in Little Venice in London
Getting to Little Venice
The most convenient tube station to travel to is Warwick Avenue, just a five minute walk and you’ll find Rembrandt Gardens and the canal path on your right hand side.
What to Do
Everyman Cinema – Definitely not like your local muliplex, this two screen cinema is cosy and welcoming, with sofa seating and a cool bar to hang out in.
Puppet Theatre Barge – Magical puppet shows have been performed on this converted barge for the past thirty years.
Rembrandt Gardens – Sunken away from the road, these tranquil gardens provide lovely views out over the canal and Little Venice.
Where to Eat & Drink
The Summerhouse – Situated on the Grand Union Canal The Summerhouse offers classy dining with lovely waterside views and a stunning seafood menu.
The Bridge House – This is the perfect setting, whether you’re after a relaxed drink, a laid back lunch or dinner that’s a little more special.
The Waterway – Somewhere between elegant dining and relaxed gastropub, this restaurant probably has the best waterside terrace in London.
Where to Stay
For my weekend I stayed at The Warrington Hotel, a beautiful and respectfully restored pub, now with a large dominating bar with intricate carvings, beautiful pillars, an impressively decorated ceiling, a large, imposing staircase, features mirrors and stained glass.
With five rooms available – I stayed in the Executive King Room (suitably named The Traveller) – you’ll be greeted by comfortable beds, a desk and chair, tea/coffee making facilities, a large bathroom with a decent sized shower. Despite the windows opening out onto a busy road with a roundabout right outside I enjoyed a remarkably peaceful sleep during my stay.
If you want to step out and explore some of the wider area then Maida Vale is a lovely area of London to explore. The Abbey Road Studios are a popular attraction for tourists. The Paddington Recreation Ground is a lovely place to spend some time, with tennis courts, an athletics track, a cricket pitch with pavilion and a café that sells drinks, snacks and ice cream.
