It’s that time of year again, where the temperature drops, the heating goes on, and inevitably my skin dries out like the Sahara Desert. Changes in my skin are always more noticeable in the Winter so I like to spend a little more time and money on its recovery. Here is my Winter skin care routine and must-have products.
My Winter Skin Care Routine and Must-Haves
5 Things You Should Do to Help Your Skin
Hydrate
I’m the first person to admit that I don’t drink nearly as much water as I should, but I’m working on it. Promise.
Sleep
They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing. Aim for at least 7 hours a night to wake up feeling and looking refreshed.
Remove Makeup
This is something I was always told to do and I’ve always stuck to it. Even on nights when I may have had a little too much to drink and have fallen into bed fully dressed, the makeup has always come off.
Be Consistent
Don’t switch products too often (unless you have an adverse reaction) Not only will your skin fight back but also you won’t have given it an opportunity to see if works or not.Â
Be Gentle
Don’t use boiling hot water, pat dry don’t rub, moisturise, and use products that work for you.
Here is my Winter skin care routine and my current favourite products:
Morning
Cleanse
I use warm (not hot) water and a soft flannel to open my pores and ensure my skin gets a good clean. The Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter is perfect for nourishing and refreshing, it’s also kind to eyes and sensitive skin.
To avoid your skin from drying out again it’s important that it’s cooled down after cleansing – this will help to close your pores.
Tip: Give your face a final wipe with a cleansing pad lightly soaked in milk.
Moisturise
Due to how my skin reacts to the change of temperature I am always willing to spend a little more on products that I know work well for me. The ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Ultra Rich Marine Cream is a moisturiser I’ve been using for a while now. It’s makes my skin feel dramatically different within a few days and only needs to be used sparingly so the hefty price-tag is more of an investment.
Lip Treatment
Lips are always the facial area that seems to be most commonly forgotten, yet they are also the most sensitive. Use Burt’s Bees Conditioning Lip Scrub because it is the ideal product to use when chapped and sore lips are a likely issue. Follow this up with Dr. PAWPAW Shea Butter Balm for a super soft and smooth finish.
Evening
Cleanse
Whether you wear a face full of makeup or you just need to clear your skin of daily grime, Garnier Cleansing Micellar Water is perfect. It gets rid of stubborn makeup easily and it instantly helps make me feel better after a long day. It’s super cheap too which is always a bonus.
Serum
Kielhl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate may be my favourite skin care product of all time. I use this every night (I’ve also been known to use it in the morning on occasion) without fail. This night-time facial oil replenishes and rejuvenates my skin over night.
Over Night Mask
I actually only use an overnight mask during the Winter, so when I do the Tea Tree Anti-Imperfection Night Mask is my go-to product. I wake up feeling ready for the day and it smells amazing.
Once a Week
Face Mask
For skin that is feeling dry, dehydrated and in need of a boost Drink Up 10 Minute Mask is a fantastic solution. This is usually done on a Friday evening.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating will not only help combat dry skin, but also helps promote good circulation. Due to my skin being quite sensitive I only exfoliate once a week but make sure to do so in the evening when skin is most receptive. I absolutely love the Ginzing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser– it’s gentle on my skin and smells delicious. – This is usually done on a Saturday evening
Clear Your Pores
Once a week I like to give my pores a deep clean with Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips. This is usually done on a Sunday morning
