When you’re lucky enough to have a passport that allows for fairly unrestricted travel the freedom can be overwhelming. The world is accessible and exciting which can easily make you feel like you have to go everywhere and explore.

There are many travel bloggers who focus on specific locations, be it their hometowns and surrounding areas, or travelling to specific places in a certain manner. For other bloggers who are less restricted regarding where they want to they process of deciding where to travel to next can be a little daunting.

This is why it is important to remember that you don’t have to go everywhere – you can see as much or as little of the world as you want. It is completely up to you where you travel to.

You Don’t Have to Go Everywhere (even as a travel blogger)

How Do You Decide Where To Travel?

How do you make that all important decision?

Do you only travel to the popular places on Instagram, the places that appear in top destination lists, or do you allow other people to help you make the decision?

If you’re travelling with other people then it won’t just be you deciding on your destination, this can influence your opinions about places and whether or not you want to travel there.

If you’re travelling alone then that decision is purely up to you.

You could always remove the decision making proces and throw a dart at a map or stick a pin in a spinning globe, therefore turning it into a game of chance.

One method I use is the “Everywhere” option on Skyscanner, that way I can use my availability dates and budget to determine where I travel.

Where Do You Want To Travel?

My ultimate tip for deciding where to travel would be to go where you want to go. We probably all spend time scrolling on Instagram admiring beautiful locations, but do you really want to go there or are you simply allowing yourself to be influenced by other people’s edited highlights?

Go to places that excite you, that make you think, that fulfil your wanderlust.

There are countries and cities that make my heart soar, that inspire me, that make me want to explore and experience them.

These are:

Canada

Japan

USA

Italy

Hungary

Czech Republic

The rest of the UK

Where Don’t You Want To Travel?

Regardless of what other travel bloggers would have you believe, I truly believe that it would be impossible to fully explore every country on the planet. You should ask yourself whether you are visiting somewhere because you are interested in it’s food, culture, landscape or whether you are going to simply say that you’ve been there.

If there are countries or cities that you have no interest in then don’t just go because you think it will look good on your Instagram feed.

There are places that I have no interest in visiting so I would prefer to spend my time, energy and money on places that grab my curiosity. Reasons for my not wanting to visit include the food, weather and being a known warzone.

These are:

India

Russia

Afghanistan

Syria

Remember, go where you want. Not where you think is popular. Spend your time, energy and money wisely and come back from your travels with positive memories.
